Bishopstone Railway Station, near Seaford in East Sussex, is a remarkable example of Art Deco architecture adapted for military defence during the Second World War. Opened in 1938, the station was modified in 1940 with two disguised machine-gun positions flanking its distinctive octagonal tower. These wartime additions formed part of Britain’s coastal defences against a possible German invasion and remain visible today.
