A surviving Second World War pillbox hidden among the trees at Buxted Park, near Uckfield in East Sussex. Constructed in 1940 during Britain’s preparations against a possible German invasion, this unusual brick-faced fortification formed part of the inland defensive network. Positioned within the wider landscape of the River Uck valley, it was intended to help resist an enemy advance through the Sussex countryside. Today, the structure remains a largely forgotten reminder of Britain’s wartime preparations.
