A good walk close to home still to be explored with my camera was Combe valley in the Hastings area of east Sussex. So one Friday afternoon I decided to take a walk around Combe valley towards Crowhurst and back.
From Combe Haven
There are a couple of free public carparks either side of the playing fields in Saint Leonards. I parked beside the caravan park and walked along Combe Haven.
I thought there might be a few people around being so close to densely populated areas and the afternoon, but soon you feel like you are miles away from anywhere, somewhere remote.
There is a nature reserve within the Combe valley the Filsham reed nature reserve where you will spot many birds, wear your walking watertight boots as its quite wet and boggy in places.
Following the combe haven which is a small river eventually takes you to the newly created Bexhill bypass which unfortunately cuts the area in two. Being March was good to catch some Daffodils in full bloom. Theres a dismantled railway in the area which they are turning into a picnic area to try and attract more visitors to the area. It felt subdued, walking around Combe valley.
Crossing over the Combe Valley way takes you pass a lake with swans and then towards Crowhurst I was going to head to the pub there but decided to back track before it got to late.
Behind the clouds the sun was setting in the west and swans were gathering in marshland where they know humans dont go. A good walk around the Combe valley.
