Deal Hythe and Sandgate Kent

It looked like I had picked the wrong week to do a road trip.  My last few days in Folkestone Kent and it was very wet and windy with a few breaks of sunshine through the clouds.  What follows is a few shots I got from around Deal, Hythe and Sandgate on the Kent coast.

Deal

These are not great photos but thought I would include them anyway.  In these scenarios I only go out scouting with my mobile and compact camera.

While in east Kent, I had also wanted to visit the seaside town of Deal.

The day I chose to visit Deal was wet and horrible, I not even get my compact out.  You can check my collection of mobile phone images of Deal here.

Hythe

Visiting Hythe near Folkestone was no better.  It really was crap weather but not want to stay couped up in my hotel room all day, so still ventured out.  With rough seas etc you can still get pretty dramatic shots, if thats your intention and your dedicated.

It was the same at Hythe, only took some compositions with my mobile phone.  You can check out my mobile photos around Hythe here.  When photographing a place you should include a defining identifiable feature as a focal point.  The shot above screams wet stormy winter day but could have been taken anywhere.

Sandgate

My last day in Folkestone and the weather was a bit more mixed.  Still stormy but with some breaks in the rain with some sunshine.  I decided to take a walk with my compact along the coast near Sandgate

I like this shot of the colorful beach huts along the coast of Sandgate.  It creates a nice contrast against the stormy winter weather.  I should still choose to use my compact on these days as shoots in RAW and any potential keepers can be added to my portfolio on Shutterstock.  I dont think mobile phone images are there yet in terms of selling.

Stormy wet weather compositions lend themselves well to particular niches of landscape photography like long exposures, black and white etc.  I guess I am still a fair weather photographer.  You also need the right clothing.

Thats it from Kent in the south east of England.  By far my best day shooting landscape photos was up on the North downs behind Folkestone.  That was a beautiful December day.  I was hoping for more days like this on my road trip.  Next stop north Devon and the weather forecast did not look good.
