Crowhurst forewood sandstone ghyll waterfall

Hidden sandstone waterfall in Fore Wood Nature Reserve near Crowhurst, East Sussex, flowing through a deep High Weald ghyll after heavy rain

A newly discovered hidden waterfall deep within Fore Wood Nature Reserve, Crowhurst. This unmarked sandstone ghyll only reveals its waterfalls after prolonged rainfall, typical of the High Weald’s hidden woodland streams.

These newly discovered waterfalls lie deep within Fore Wood Nature Reserve near Crowhurst, cut into classic High Weald sandstone and hidden inside a steep, wooded ghyll. The stream is unmarked on OS Maps and Google Maps, which is why it had been missed on previous walks. Only by studying contour lines and LiDAR data did this ravine stand out as a likely candidate.
