hidden waterfall crowhurst woodland

Hidden woodland waterfall near Crowhurst, East Sussex, flowing over mossy sandstone steps after heavy rain

A small but striking hidden waterfall discovered while exploring the wooded streams around Crowhurst in the High Weald, revealed only after persistent off-path searching through dense, waterlogged woodland.

This hidden waterfall was discovered while scouting the wooded stream valleys around Crowhurst, prompted by claims of a much larger, secret waterfall somewhere in the area. Although the elusive 20-foot fall remained unfound, this secluded cascade emerged instead — part of a small cluster of waterfalls tucked deep within boggy, overgrown woodland. Reaching it required slow, exhausting progress through thick undergrowth, mud, and fallen trees, and while the stream itself has not yet been fully explored, the discovery proved the effort worthwhile and hints that more hidden falls remain further upstream.
