Using the National Trust Guide for Cornwall that I had picked up in my hotel in Newquay, from Penzance I was now heading to Porthcurno, some say the most beautiful bay in the world.
Porthcurno Long Exposure
Porthcurno is a small beach, of fine natural sand, turquoise sea and surrounded by granite cliffs. It was now cloudy and windy, the sea was a little rough. Initially I was shooting with my Canon Compact camera.
Even with the dull lighting conditions I had to switch to my DLSR as the views were still breathtaking. I decided to take some long exposure shots with my DLSR and tripod.
Not sure about the black seaweed in the shot above. Again this is something I am picking up in post processing and not in camera. You really should make a conscious effort to check the frame and remove any distracting elements from your composition. Otherwise I love the long exposure of the sea receding from the rocks and waves crashing into the granite cliffs.
Percella Point Porthcurno
After getting my fill of the beach at Porthcurno I took a climb up the cliff face to my left aka Percella Point to get a better view of the surrounding coastline. I switched back to using my compact camera.
The southwest coastal path goes all the way along this far west Cornish coastline. Had I chose to stay in Penzance I could have spent my time exploring this wonderful part of the world. Returned at different times of the day to get better lighting conditions especially in the sky, dusk or dawn light.
Porthcurno truly takes your breath away and must be a wonderful place to bathe during the warmer months. A few surfers turned up and now I was heading to my next destination, a place I had always wanted to visit, Lands End.
