River Brede Winchelsea Cock Marling

Sunday I knew I wanted to go for a walk and practice some more landscape photography, but where?  I like to scout new places but I had picked all the low hanging fruit.  Online I found east Sussex county councils circular walks and liked the look of Winchelsea to Cock Marling along the river Brede.

Along the river Brede

I do enjoy a walk along the river, often there is wildlife, lush vegetation and plants closeby as well undulating landscape and small hills with good views.   The walk to Cock Marling looked good on the map.

It was another hot and bright summers day  I was keen to practice more focusing at the hyperfocal along the river brede and from the surrounding low level hills that lead you up to Cock Marling.  Again I was using colourful plants as my focal point and foreground interest.

For some reason, they were not coming out as well as the ones on the South Downs, maybe it was due to atmospheric conditions, maybe the river Brede is just less photogenic than the south downs?  I was cutting the sky out as it had nothing going on and was just a large negative space, a weak hazy blue, although visibility was very good.

Around Cock Marling

Leaving the river which you can follow pass Brede, I began an ascent up a relatively steep hill towards Cock Marling at the summit.  After taking a rest under the shade of a large tree, I could then take in the views of the Brede levels below and find a good landscape composition.

The above landscape photo is perhaps my favorite and it was not using the hyperfocal as nothing to focus in the foreground except dried out long grass. No the focus point was in the mid ground on the Oast houses with Brede Level stretching out behind and beyond.

A nice walk along the river Brede and Cock Marling as I made my way back to Winchelsea train station where I had parked my car.  Some good views across the valley on top of the hill at Cock Marling, would be good to return with better lighting, but now I needed to find the nearest pub that was open a little before midday.  That being the Kings Head in Udimore which do a lovely pint of best.
