Having been living in east Sussex for a few months now I was looking for new places to go for a good walk and hopefully find some good subjects for landscape photography. It was time to head west to the village of Jevington and return to the hills of the south downs.
There are of course the classic walks along the south downs in east Sussex which I have already done like Beachy Head, Burling gap and the seven sisters. All well worth a repeat visit but I like to explore places new. Researching the area nearest to where I live in Bexhill I found a walk to Jevington on IFootpath.
South Downs way to Jevington
Driving to Polegate near Eastbourne and up Butt lane to a free carpark on top of the south downs. Once up there realised at this time of the year January on top of Babylon down would be a good spot to catch a sunrise.
At first it was overcast and although good to be up here in the hills there was nothing spectacular to catch the eye it looked quite dull. Then the sun shone through lighting up the scene, giving everything highlights and shadows which makes all the difference. The red berries on the lone tree is a complimentary colour of the long green grass on the hills of the south downs according to colour theory.
I followed the 1066 country walk footpath into the village of Jevington discovering a free carpark there and the possibility of many other future walks as well as a pub the eight bells.
Return to Jevington
I returned the next weekend to Jevington and parked up directly there. Over the week I had studied os maps online around the Jevington area and there was public footpaths criss crossing all over the place.
Lots of walking routes and landscape photography opportunities around Jevington and not too far away from my home in east Sussex.

The first walk would take me along the south downs way overwindover wilmington hills and finally around Folkington Hill then along the wealdway back into Jevington.
I love the views from atop of Wilmington hill, this is such a beautiful part of east Sussex. The hills of the south downs you see in the distance are Bopeep and Firle and across the way Mount Caburn and the Lewes Downs. In the forground there is some sheep poo! Before submitting to Shutterstock I carefully removed this using the spot removal tool in Lightroom during post processing.
Jevington through Friston Forest
I head back to the same free car park in Jevington but to walk the other way through Friston forest and pass Charleston bottom and towards the White horse carved out in the chalk hill called High and Over.

Alot more overcast this day but still some dramatic sights and a good walk all the same. Head to Jevington in east Sussex with your camera for some great walking and Landscape photography on the South Downs.
