With the nice weather and not having to work I was getting out alot around Dorset for a walk and to practice my landscape photography. The next stop Osmington involved to hill walking inland but with great views over the Dorset coast.
White Horse of Osmington
The defining feature around Osmington in Dorset is the White Horse calved into the hillside. The White Horse soons comes into view leaving Osmington and hiking along the South Dorset Ridgeway.
It was a hot day in Osmington and the light was not great for photographing the iconic white horse. I decided on a closeup and zoomed in to maximum focal length of 200mm. The white horse of Osmington is in honour of King George III who use to regularly visit nearby Weymouth for holidays.
East Hill Views
From the top of East Hill there are great views across the valley to Weymouth in the distance and Portland Bill.
The sky was a little white and hazy to make a memorable landscape photo of this beautiful area of Dorset but was really enjoying the walk. Much prefer deep blue skies and fluffy white clouds so as not to have any empty space.
In landscape photography you will often be told middle of the day especially in summer is the worst time. But you can end up with stunning photographs if the sun is at the right angle and visibility is really good. On shutterstock I find images of hills, sunny days, blue skies and fluffy white clouds are the ones that sell rather than the golden hour. But I am out hiking alot more with the sun high in the sky rather than on the horizon.
Before leaving Dorset to return to work in East Sussex September I was intending to a little road trip to visit Lyme Regis and down there Weymouth and stay in bed & breakfast for a few days with the intention of photographing during the golden hour.
