The surviving chancel walls of St Mary’s Chapel in Bulverhythe, a Norman church later rebuilt in the 13th century.

Hidden among houses in St Leonards, these are the remains of St Mary’s Chapel at Bulverhythe. Built in the Norman period and later rebuilt in the 13th–14th century, it once served a medieval harbour town largely lost to the sea. Archaeological digs uncovered burials and carved stonework, but today only a fragment of the chancel walls survive, preserved as a rare reminder of Hastings’ medieval past.
